Wat ga je doen?

Demcon Defense & Security uses various robotic control and sensor processing algorithms, which require information from other software modules. We use ROS 2 to facilitate the communication between these modules over ethernet. However, there are situations where modules run on systems that are not on a wired connection to the other modules, requiring the use of lossy connections like Wi-Fi, LTE or other wireless data links. To that end we want to investigate the viability of using ROS 2 over lossy and interruptible connections, and to determine how to best configure such a setup to achieve sufficient reliability.

Your internship would consist of: designing tests to verify the performance of ROS 2 with various network connection types (ethernet, Wi-Fi, LTE) and ROS 2/DDS configurations. This includes specifying the tests themselves and the critical performance indicators, setting up a test environment to perform the tests, and reporting the results with recommendations with respect to the suitability of ROS 2 on the different types of networks; and finally the recommended configuration of ROS 2 and DDS on the suitable networks.

The ideal candidate for this assignment is either looking for an HBO (university of applied sciences) graduation or internship assignment or a WO (University) internship assignment.

Wat breng je mee?

  • Studying for a BSc or MSc. at hbo or wo, in programmes such as Computer Science, Systems & Control, Robotics, Electrical engineering or Artificial Intelligence.
  • Affinity with networking and communication systems.
  • Analytical and independent.
  • Enthusiastic and proactive.
  •  Interested in robotics technology and autonomous vehicles.
  • Available for at least 16 weeks (preferably more) to work at our location in Enschede.
  • Experience with ROS(2) is a plus.
