We deliver custom and off-the-shelf cooling solutions globally, enabling customers to push boundaries in high-tech industries. Products are related to various areas, including medical, aerospace and in the academic field.
In one of our projects, we have developed a cryogenic cooling system (Cryo-EM) for an electron microscopy environment. The main objective of the cooler is to keep bio-samples at cryogenic temperatures (<123 K). A high temperature stability and durability of the system is of huge importance for this application. Currently, the Cryo-EM system is integrated into an electron microscope (located at the customer) to measure and test these key performances. A more convenient way of work would be to develop a test setup at Demcon, which approximates the environment of the integrated Cryo-EM environment (e.g. ultra-high vacuum, temperature, shielding). Once the test setup is realized, it can be used to perform a DOE (design of experiments), in which performance parameters like cool-down time, operation times, vacuum quality can be characterized. Furthermore, it is an option to compare the already available test data from the integrated Cryo-EM system in the electron microscope with the data from the test setup to validate the test setup.
Demcon kryoz is looking for an (applied) university student with, which will take care of the design of a test setup for the Cryo-EM application. The design process includes conventional design methods, generating tooling and validation of the test setup. The next step is to generate a DOE (design of experiments) and process the data to validate the test setup and monitor the influence of the most important parameters. Demcon employees will supervise and help with the process.
